Industry News:
Why The ETL & UL Safety Marks are Important
to Walk In Tub Buyers
Remain
Active Walk In Tubs only sells UL & ETL
listed walk in tubs and
handicap tubs.
Why is the UL mark so important to a
walk in tub consumer? The answer to this
ever popular question is simple; a UL mark
on a product means that UL has evaluated and
tested a manufacturer’s sample of the
product and has certified that the product
meets the high UL requirements. Once a
manufacturer has received the initial UL
Mark on their product they are subject to
periodic testing at the manufacturing
facility to ensure that the product
continues to meet UL requirements. The UL
Mark is not only recognized as a mark of
safety and quality in the US market, but
also provides access to the marks required
in a number of other key world markets. UL
has been in operation for more than a
century as an independent nonprofit
organization that writes and tests product
for safety and certifies them. The ETL
mark is an alternative mark to the UL or CSA
mark. This certification mark indicates that
the product has been tested to and has met
the minimum requirements of a widely
recognized (consensus) U.S. product safety
standard, that the manufacturing site has
been audited, and that the applicant has
agreed to a program of periodic factory
follow-up inspections to verify continued
compliance to the safety regulations. So,
now that you know the importance of these
safety certifications-and understand that
compliance to the requirements is not easily
met- you should realize that not every
walk in tub manufacturer is willing to
put their product up to the rigorous
testing. One reason many manufacturer’s do
not have their products tested is due to the
expense of testing the product. The
manufacturer must cover the costs associated
with freighting the product to the testing
lab as well as pay for the tests. Remain
Active is proud of our product and know that
you will be just as proud to be an owner of
a safety certified
walk in tub!
