Frequently Asked Questions About Walk In Tubs

How Does the Walk In Tub Water Tight Door Work?

The Hydro-Elite Bath Series’ water tight door seal system forms a hydrostatic seal when compressed by latching the door. Additionally, the weight of water inside the tub further compresses the door seal making it completely leak proof. Remain Active Walk In Tubs guarantees the door seal for life.

Do Remain Active Walk-In Tubs have safety certification?

Yes! Remain Active Walk In Tubs is one of the few walk-in tub companies that is ETL certified to UL 1795  safety ratings. If your installer or county inspector requires proof of certification prior to purchase we are happy to provide you with documentation.

Can Remain Active’s Walk-in Tub also be used as a shower?

Yes! Our faucet comes with a hand-held shower head which mounts into the deck of the tub. If you choose, the hand held shower head can easily be mounted on the wall, giving you one more reason to love your walk-in tub!

How is the walk-in tub installed into my existing bathroom?

The installation of any model from our Hydro-Elite Bath Series is very easy. Any licensed plumber can do the job. You don’t need a costly remodel to revolutionize your bathroom since each of our models fit into a traditional 60 inch tub space. If needed, your walk in tubs will include an extension kit to perfectly complete a retro fit installation. Our tubs come in both right hand and left hand versions to accommodate any bathroom layout.

Is there anything special my plumber needs to know before our walk in tub is delivered?

If you have opted to purchase The Duet, Aria, or The Encore your plumber would need to have two dedicated 15 amp circuits on a GFI. One for each, the inline heater and one for the pump. Complete installation instructions and a Product Manual are provided with each purchase.

Is there a warranty with my Remain Active Walk-in Bathtub?

Each and every one of our Remain Active walk-in tubs is covered by our 10 year complete and comprehensive warranty. Our friendly customer service representatives are ready to help with all aspects of your walk-in tub, even years after your purchase! In addition to your 10 year complete care warranty, you also have a LIFETIME guarantee on the seal of your door. What kind of tests are done on the Walk in Tubs before their shipped?

All of our walk in tubs are inspected 100% in our factory prior to shipping; no detail or function is overlooked. The pump and jets are tested for 24 hours-checking  your tub for leaks, malfunctions and overall performance. Once we are assured that your tub is fully functioning, and can be covered under our comprehensive 10 year warranty, your tub is drained, dried and carefully crated for shipment. The Hydro-Elite Series Walk In Tubs have safety compliance certification for the following tests: cETL, UL 1795 ratings and  IAPMO.

What is the difference between  walk in tubs and handicap tubs?

As the name "walk in tub" implies- the bathtub is designed for people who have the ability to enter a walk in tub using an inward swinging door. Walk In Tubs eliminate the necessity to step over the side of a traditional bathtub and are designed to make personal hygiene easier for the elderly or those with limited mobility.
Handicap Tubs on the other hand are specially designed for people who have limited to no use of their legs. Handicap tubs generally have outward swinging doors making the use of a transfer bench or lift easier. Handicap tubs commonly feature mulitple hydrotherapy options meant to help promote proper blood circulation for inactive limbs and extremities.

What is the difference between  water and air jetted hydrotherapy?

Hydrotherapy is available in all of our walk in tub and handicap tub units. Water jets are used to target deeper tissues in the muscles. Water jets help massage and relax tight muscles. Air jets are a softer massage that helps circulate blood without the targeted penetration of the water jets. All of our water jetted walk in tubs have inline heaters which is meant to maintain the temperature of the water as it circulates through the tub. The air jetted walk in tubs inject heated air (at approximately 80 degrees) into the tub to keep the bath water from cooling during the duration of your massage.

What is the difference between acrylic and fiberglass shells?

If you've done any research on walk in tubs you'll have read all sorts of opinions regarding acrylic versus fiberglass walk in tubs. At Remain Active we offer several product lines- made up of walk in tubs made from both materials. So, what is the difference and how can you make the decision that will best fit your budget and bathing needs? Acrylic walk in bathtubs are constructed using a large sheet of solid colored acrylic plastic.  The acrylic is heated and  then vacuum pressure is used to stretch the heated acrylic over the walk in tub mold to achieve the desired shape. Acrylic is reinforced with a composite material for structural support on the back of the acrylic shell.
Fiberglass Walk In Tubs are manufactured with composite materials, the same materials that are used to make automobiles and yachts. The fiberglass manufacturing process is critical, as the liquid gel-coat must be applied evenly on the molds at the correct temperature. Remain Active uses a special polyurethane blend in our gel-coating to protect our fiberglass from UV rays.  Many customers are of the misconception that acrylic walk in tubs can not be repaired- this is not so. However, a big  plus for  fiberglass is  that it is easier to repair in the field, but both acrylic and fiberglass units have sucessfully been repaired; repairs performed correctly are permanent and virtually invisible.

In light of the differences in acrylic and fiberglass walk in tubs, it's improtant that our customer knows that both the fiberglass and the acrylic tubs come with a 10 year warranty on the shell of the unit and a lifetime warranty on the seal of the door. Both units are built using a stainless steel, powder coated frame with adjustable leveling feet. Our acrylic walk in tub line by American Standard Walk in Baths does offer more hydrotherapy options and features than our fiberglass walk in tubs.

Do I need a larger water heater to fill my walk in tub?

A standard walk in bathtub generally requires an estimated 55 gallons of water. It has been our experience that a 40 gallon water heater will be more than efficient in filling your new walk in bathtub.

Does Remain Active offer Walk In Tub Installation Services?

Remain Active works with walk in tub installers in many states and some areas of Canada. It's important to note that any licensed contractor or plumber can install our walk in tubs. To visit one of our showrooms, meet with an installer or for additional information please call our toll free number for assistance with your walk in tub purchase.

What Is An Extension Kit?

Walk In Tubs and handicap tubs come in a variety of widths and lengths. The average walk in tub is approximately 51-53 inches long, whereas a traditional bathtub generally measures 60" long. In order to make an easy task of retrofitting an existing bathtub space with a new walk in tub we have added an extension kit or "filler panel"  option to each tub order. The Extension Kit is made of the same material as the shell of your walk in tub and is made to fill the space at the back of the tub. The extension kit easily attaches to the tub and wall to give you a seamless looking installation. You do not have to use the extension kit, but it is included in the package of your walk in tub purchase.

What is an inline heater and how does it work?

An inline heater is sometimes referred to as a "T Heater" and is best described as a "heat maintainer". The inline heater will not heat cold water, but as the water is recirculated through your walk in tub the water will pass over the inline heater and keep the temperature comfortable. The inline heater automatically comes on with the water jets of your hydrotherapy walk in tub are turned on.

Does Medicare cover the cost of a Walk In Tub?

Medicare does not include a walk in bathtub or handicap tub on thier list of Durable Medical Equipment.
